hello to all someone has geography notes on Africa? Thanks to all

Answers

Answer:

Hello! I took a geography course last year and learned a lot about the geography of Africa. I took a LOT of notes, and I have too many to share them all here, but I'm happy to share the most important ones:

Geography of East Africa

The Horn of Africa is in the east of the continent, almost directly in the middle, with the point of the horn resting underneath the Arabian peninsula. The Great Rift Valley starts in the middle of the Horn of Africa and extends down the eastern side of Africa. This part of Africa has many lakes that were formed by the rifting of the surface, caused by violent subterranean forces that tore apart the Earth's crust. Evidence that this process is still going on are the many volcanoes that remain active in the area. Lake Victoria, Victoria Falls, and Mount Kilimanjaro are beautiful formations that came from this violent geographic phenomenon. Major rivers in this region are the Nile, the Zambezi, the Limpopo, and the Orange Rivers. All of these features help to create the tropical and sub-tropical climates of this region.

Savannas and tropical rainforests are the climate zones of this area, where we will find elephants, zebras, lions, and other animals. A great effort is going forward to stop the poaching of these animals. By creating national reserves on these lands, it is hoped that law enforcement will be able to prevent the practice of poaching in the future. The Serengeti plains of Kenya and Tanzania are where these majestic creatures are found. Ecotourism is a new effort to take visitors on educational, guided tours of the landscape, providing a more structured and monitored tourist trade option in order to protect the wildlife.

Geography of North Africa

The countries north of the Sahara Desert are in North Africa. These countries include Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. This area does not have many water systems, but it does include the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea and Nile River to the east. The Nile River is the longest river in the world, running south to north and emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.

The Atlas Mountains run across Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The Sahara Desert makes this region very dry and hot. Living in a dry and hot place like the Sahara Desert requires one to learn about and appreciate the oasis. An oasis is an area where water has gathered, perhaps fed by an underground spring, in which vegetation can grow and humans and animals can find refuge from the dry heat of the desert. Almost half of North Africans are Egyptian. The remaining portion of the population are nomads that herd their livestock from place to place in the North African region.

Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of North Africa. Migration to the cities in North Africa puts a strain on the infrastructure of the cities, one of the principal concerns being water.

Geography of West Africa

There are 53 different countries within the continent of Africa. 900 million people reside here. Africa is a continent because it is a continuous land mass. The equator runs almost directly through the middle of Africa. The belt of air that rises around this zone is called the ITCZ, or Inter Tropical Convergence Zone, and it creates wet and dry seasons, with heavy rains during the wet seasons. Many water systems exist in Africa, and people gravitate to these bodies of water. To the north, the Sahara Desert runs the length of the continent from east to west. South of the Sahara are found deserts, grasslands, and lush, tropical rainforests. Savannas have tall grasses. There are few types of trees that can thrive in this environment. These areas are also where we find animals like lions, zebras, wildebeests, antelope, gazelle, and elephants. The rainforest areas are wooded portions of jungle where we can find fruit trees, including coconut trees, banana trees, and even certain citrus trees. Under the canopy of the forest, animals live, such as monkeys, reptiles, and tropical birds.

Sorry it's lengthy, but I hope this helps!

which piece of evidence renewed the scientific community's interest in continental drift?

Answers

In the 1950s, the discovery of mid-ocean ridges provided the scientific community with the evidence it needed to rekindle its interest in continental drift

Continental drift refers to the movement of the Earth's continents. Alfred Wegener, a German meteorologist, was the first to propose this theory in 1912. According to Wegener's theory, around 300 million years ago, there was a supercontinent known as Pangea. Then, due to continental drift, the continents drifted apart. The scientific community had doubts about this theory since Wegener couldn't explain the mechanism behind the movement of the continents. In the 1950s, scientists discovered mid-ocean ridges, which are underwater mountain ranges that run through the Earth's oceans. This was significant because it provided the scientific community with the evidence it needed to rekindle its interest in continental drift. The discovery of mid-ocean ridges indicated that the Earth's crust was not solid and rigid, but rather dynamic. Scientists came up with a new theory called plate tectonics, which explained how the Earth's crust moves and why earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.Plate tectonics is the study of how the Earth's crust is formed, moved, and destroyed by geological forces. It includes the study of the Earth's tectonic plates and how they interact with each other. The discovery of mid-ocean ridges, therefore, renewed the scientific community's interest in continental drift and led to the development of plate tectonics.

A traditional tropical broadleaf evergreen forest predominates the vegetation in the basin of the amazon river in South America.

The Amazon rainforest is the largest of all rainforests, covering around 2,336,344 m2 (or almost 40% of South America) in the Amazon and upper Orinoco lowlands. A typical tropical evergreen forest dominates the vegetation, although there are also a number of other plant communities present, such as seasonally deciduous forests, open woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands. Actual vegetation at a specific site is determined by regional factors such as climate, soils, flood regime, terrain, and drainage. Terra firme rainforest, which consists of evergreen trees growing in three hazily defined strata to form a closed canopy above a sparse ground layer of seedlings and young saplings, covers around 90% of the area. There aren't many plants and shrubs because the forest floor receives little sunshine. The forest's low tree density makes it possible to travel across it rather easily. Answers

Beach size varies with each storm, but on average over a few decades, a normal sandy beach's size is typically regulated by the equilibrium between sand supply from rivers or coastal erosion and sand loss to the deep sea. The right response in this case is option D.

The majority of beach materials are the result of erosive weathering. Water and wind erode the ground over a long period of time. For instance, certain rocks may break free as a result of the constant motion of waves crashing against a rocky bluff. Massive boulders can be reduced to the size of sand grains.

A rocky beach is produced when large waves carry sand offshore and onto longshore sand bars. A broad, sandy beach is produced when little waves push sand up the beach face.

Sand is created as rocks erode and weather over decades, even millions, of years. The decomposition of rocks, particularly quartz (silica) and feldspar require time. Rocks slowly move down rivers and streams, often beginning thousands of kilometers from the ocean, continually disintegrating along the way.

B. Northern Europe has a largely inhospitable higher-latitude climate is entirely separated by water from the rest of Europe.

Northern Europe includes, in addition to the Scandinavian countries, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and, on occasion, the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Because of its northern location on the European continent, the region experiences long, harsh winters and shorter, cooler summers. This climate makes agriculture and other activities difficult.

Furthermore, water bodies such as the North, Baltic, and Norwegian Seas effectively isolate Northern Europe from the rest of Europe and have shaped the region's history, culture, and trade patterns.

Discuss how the removal of the natural vegetation for human activities increased the eroded soil and sediments in the river

Answers

The removal of natural vegetation for human activities such as farming, logging, and construction has had a significant impact on the health of rivers and waterways. Natural vegetation acts as a buffer, preventing soil erosion and sedimentation in waterways.

Without this protective layer, the soil is more susceptible to being washed away by rain and carried downstream by river currents. This results in increased sedimentation in rivers, which can cause problems such as decreased water quality, reduced aquatic biodiversity, and flooding. Additionally, eroded soil can carry pollutants such as fertilizers and pesticides, further contaminating waterways.
The impacts of eroded soil and sedimentation are not limited to the health of waterways but also affect surrounding ecosystems and communities. For example, sedimentation can harm fish populations and make it difficult for boats to navigate rivers. In addition, eroded soil can lead to reduced crop yields and nutrient depletion in soil.
To mitigate the effects of soil erosion and sedimentation, it is essential to protect and restore natural vegetation along riverbanks. This can include measures such as planting native vegetation, implementing erosion control practices, and reducing human activities that contribute to soil disturbance. By preserving and restoring natural vegetation, we can help to maintain healthy and thriving river ecosystems for future generations.

according to geologists, the san francisco bay area experiences six earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater every 100 years. what is the probability that one or more earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater will strike the san francisco bay area in the next year?

Answers

If the san francisco bay area experiences six earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater every 100 years the probability that one or more earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater will strike the San Francisco Bay Area in the next year is 0.06 or 6%.

To calculate this probability, we can use the following steps:

1. Determine the average rate of earthquakes: According to geologists, the San Francisco Bay Area experiences six earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater every 100 years.

2. Calculate the annual probability: Since there are 6 earthquakes every 100 years, the annual probability of a single earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater is 6/100, which equals 0.06.

3. Find the probability of no earthquakes in the next year: To find the probability of not having any earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7 or greater in the next year, we can use the formula:

P(No earthquakes) = 1 - P(At least one earthquake)

4. Calculate the probability of at least one earthquake: To find the probability of having at least one earthquake in the next year, we subtract the probability of no earthquakes from 1:

P(At least one earthquake) = 1 - (1 - 0.06)\(^1\)= 1 - 0.94 = 0.06
