What freedoms do you think we don’t need in the United States? Which ones would you be willing to give up if you had to?

Answers

Answer 1

I think that one freedom we do not need in the United States is the freedom to own firearms. I would be willing to give up this freedom if I had to, as I believe it would help reduce the devastating effects of gun violence that we have seen in recent years.

I understand that many people feel strongly about their Second Amendment rights, but I believe that these rights should not come at the cost of innocent lives. Even if stricter laws are put in place, there will still be those who obtain firearms illegally, but I believe stricter laws will help reduce gun violence overall.

Additionally, I think that the freedom to consume alcohol should be restricted. The legal drinking age should remain at 21, as alcohol consumption poses a risk to both individuals and society at large.

'An old man turned ninety-eight', is that ironic?

Answers

Yes ,it’s not always expected.

Read the two passages and answer the question.

Passage 1: "Midas" retold by Thomas Bulfinch

[1] Bacchus, on a certain occasion, found his old schoolmaster and foster-father, Silenus, missing. The old man had been drinking, and in that state wandered away, and was found by some peasants, who carried him to their king, Midas. Midas recognized him, and treated him hospitably, entertaining him for ten days and nights with an unceasing round of jollity.

[2] On the eleventh day he brought Silenus back, and restored him in safety to his pupil. Whereupon Bacchus offered Midas his choice of a reward, whatever he might wish. He asked that whatever he might touch should be changed into gold. Bacchus consented, though sorry that he had not made a better choice.

[3] Midas went his way, rejoicing in his new-acquired power, which he hastened to put to the test. He could scarce believe his eyes when he found a twig of an oak, which he plucked from the branch, become gold in his hand. He took up a stone; it changed to gold. He touched a sod; it did the same. He took up an apple from the tree; you would have thought he had robbed the garden of the Hesperides. His joy knew no bounds, and as soon as he got home, he ordered the servants to set a splendid repast on the table. Then he found to his dismay that whether he touched bread, it hardened in his hand; or put a morsel to his lip, it defied his teeth. He took a glass of wine, but it flowed down his throat like melted gold.

[4] In consternation at the unprecedented affliction, he strove to divest himself of his power; he hated the gift he had lately coveted. But all in vain; starvation seemed to await him. He raised his arms, all shining with gold, in prayer to Bacchus, begging to be delivered from his glittering destruction. Bacchus, merciful deity, heard and consented. "Go," said he, "to River Pactolus, trace its fountain-head, there plunge yourself and body in, and wash away your fault and its punishment." He did so, and scarce had he touched the waters before the gold-creating power passed into them, and the river sands became changed into gold, as they remain to this day.

Passage 2: "Bacchus's Regret" by Hunter Doyle

[1] King Midas returned my beloved teacher to me,
so I rewarded him with a wish—whatever he wanted would be.
Midas cried, "Give my fingers a golden touch!
Then, I shall have a gilded kingdom and such."

[5] I tried to make him see the err of his choice,
but he would not heed the caution in my voice.
I pleaded with Midas, "Be careful what you choose,
for you're only thinking of what you'll gain—not what you'll lose."

[9] His thirst for wealth became no match for his appetite;
after all, a gold apple is not something one can bite.
His daughter wept for her poor starving dad,
so he wiped her tears and told her not to be sad.

[13] Into a golden statue Midas's daughter became,
and he and his greedy wish were ultimately to blame.
Yet, maybe if I had put up more of a fight and a fret,
then I wouldn't have to live with all this regret.

Explanation:

Culinary therapy is a form of therapy that involves using cooking and food as a means to address physical, emotional, and mental health issues. It is believed that the process of cooking and preparing food can have a therapeutic effect, helping people to relax and focus on the task at hand. While culinary therapy may be beneficial for some people, it is not necessarily superior to other forms of therapy and should not be considered the most useful form of therapy for all individuals. It is also not intended to make the chore of cooking more enjoyable, but rather to use cooking as a means of addressing specific therapeutic goals.

The speaker supports the validity of his claim about how society develops by sharing his ideas for establishing a viable standard of living. According to him, a society needs to prioritize the basic needs of its members, such as food, shelter, and clothing, before moving on to more complex social structures and organizations. The speaker argues that a society can only develop if it provides for the basic needs of its members. This includes access to food, water, shelter, and clothing. Once these basic needs are met, individuals can focus on higher-level needs such as education, culture, and social structures.

The speaker's argument is valid because it is based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, which proposes that individuals need to fulfill their basic physiological and safety needs before moving on to higher-level needs. Therefore, a society that prioritizes the basic needs of its members is more likely to develop and thrive than one that does not.In conclusion, the speaker's support for the validity of his claim about how society develops is based on the idea that prioritizing the basic needs of its members is necessary for a society to develop.

When God blesses us financially, what does He expect us to do with
His abundance? How do the Scriptures characterize the love of
money?

Answers

Explanation:

When God blesses us financially, he expects us to help others, be generous and kind.

Regarding the love of money, the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil. Most people misunderstand this statement and say money is the root of all evil. Getting money legally is good. The Bible never said that's bad. What it said was For the love of money is the root of all evil. This is because, most people who love money become so obsessed with it and go to extreme lengths such as stealing, murdering, etc just to get money

The question of what God expects us to do with financial blessings and how the Scriptures characterize the love of money is a matter of interpretation and varies across religious beliefs and denominations.

However, I can provide you with some general insights based on commonly held principles in Christianity. Stewardship and Generosity: Many religious teachings emphasize the concept of stewardship, which means recognizing that all resources, including financial blessings, ultimately belong to God. As stewards, individuals are encouraged to manage these resources responsibly and generously, using them to benefit others and advance God's purposes. This can include supporting charitable causes, helping the less fortunate, and contributing to the well-being of one's community. Avoiding the Love of Money: While money itself is not inherently evil, the Scriptures caution against the love of money. The Bible, particularly in 1 Timothy 6:10, states that "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." This highlights the danger of greed, materialism, and placing undue importance on wealth and possessions.

Which evidence from the text best supports the answer in Part A?

Responses

Transmitters are used “to keep people like George [Harrison's father] from taking unfair advantage of their brains.”

Harrison behaves violently when he snatches up two musicians and them slams them back into their chairs.

Vonnegut writes that Hazel’s intelligence was average, “which meant she couldn’t think about anything except in short bursts.”

The start of the story emphasizes the fact that “everybody was finally equal.”

Answers

The main message of "Harrison Bergeron" is that some limitations on individual liberties are required. The text's examples of how transmitters are used to prevent individuals from unfairly exploiting their brains are consistent with this.

Vonnegut implies that these limitations are required in order to attain real equality when he claims that this technology is utilised to maintain individuals on an even playing field. The narrative also highlights how "everybody was finally equal," further indicating the necessity of these limitations.

Harrison's aggressive actions when he grabs two musicians and smashes them back into their chairs further support the notion that limitations are required to ensure equality. Hazel's IQ was ordinary, so Vonnegut concludes, "which meant she couldn't think."
