While Kate lay in bed recovering from that terrible night, every train passing the farmhouse blew its whistle in her honor. Then the people of Iowa awarded her a gold medal, and the railroad gave her one hundred dollars and a lifetime railroad pass. The nation honored Kate, too. However, the honor most dear to her came from the railroad men themselves. As long as she lived in Moingona, Iowa, they recognized brave Kate in their own special way. Whenever she wanted to ride the Chicago and Northwestern, they stopped the train just for her. A station stop was not good enough. They stopped the train right in front of the little farmhouse on Honey Creek.

What inference can be made based on the details in the excerpt and what the reader has learned so far?

(A: Kate values the recognition from the railroad men most because her father was a railroad man)

(B: Kate insists that the railroad men stop for her at her home rather than at the station.) (C: Railroad men blow the train whistle as they pass Kate's house out of respect for her father.

(D: The railroad offers Kate money and a railroad pass in the hopes that she will become a railroad worker like her father.)

What do you think happened at the end of The Giver? Why? Justify your answer with evidence from the book.

Answers

Answer:

In my opinion, at the end of The Giver Jonas and Gabriel just fainted and before he closed his eyes he had memories that were getting recalled.

The reason why I strongly believe that Jonas was just remembering his past is because before Jonas closed his eyes, Jonas noticed the houses in the other community he reached to. When he went on the sled with Gabriel he perceived the memories he experienced during the training with the giver. That moment just returned the memories he had. Another moment they had before they fainted was when he saw the houses filled with people singing, laughing, enjoying. I am assuming that Jonas just had a theory and the voices simply echoed in his mind due to the state he was in. The reason why they passed out is probably because of their weakness. They didn't get a good source of good and warmth and were very tired of travelling form one community to another. In conclusion, Jonas and Gabriel just passed out and the people on the other community will probably take care of them and give them the warmth the other community didn't. Hope this helps!

Answers

The best advice for writing the first draft is Option D. Get your ideas out first and worry about polishing them later. To make the first draft, ideas are the key to creating your writing.

A draft is necessary in writing to organize ideas. There are two kinds of drafts. Those are the first draft and the second draft.

A. First Draft

The first draft is called a "rough sketch" at the beginning of writing. A writer is usually stuck at the start, so getting the idea out first is critical in this step. The ideas flow and are then written down in some points (general idea and key points). Later, the writer will develop the ideas into a larger outline. So, ideas are the key to develop your writing.

B. Second Draft

The second draft is much better than a rough sketch. The writing is already in the development stage, and the review is the next step that must be taken by the writer. In the second draft, a writer will add a touch that makes the story more interesting. In this stage, the writer can rearrange the plot, pay attention to word choice, sentence structure, and punctuation.

Does My Head Look Big in This? and Persepolis. Excerpt from Does My Head Look Big in This?: My best friends, Leila Okulgen and Yasmeen Khan, moved on to a public high school close to Coburg, where they live. I begged my parents to let me go with them but Mom and Dad insisted that I go to a private school. I tried everything. At first I sucked up to them big time, making them coffee after dinner, offering to set the table before Mom had a chance to ask me, letting them watch PBS documentaries when I wanted to watch Big Brother. That didn’t work. So I turned political, ranting about them perpetuating the snobby bourgeoisie power trip of our educational system which forges aristocratic divisions between social classes (I got that from a PBS documentary). Talk about having no compassion or social conscience. They just laughed at me and gave me a pile of literature about the school. Excerpt from Persepolis: A page titled The Letter from the graphic novel Persepolis. Which statement is true about the narrators’ different perspectives? Amal is worried about how the political situation will affect her education, while Marjane is concerned with helping people who are suffering. Amal is concerned about the suffering of people around her, while Marjane is concerned only with her own suffering. Amal and Marjane are both dedicated to learning about the political landscape and using their knowledge to help others. Amal and Marjane are both interested in taking what they have learned about politics and social class and applying it to their own situation.

Answers

Answer:

D). Amal and Marjane are both interested in taking what they have learned about politics and social class and applying it to their own situation.

Explanation:

The last statement asserts a true claim regarding the different perspectives adopted by the narrator. Amal and Marjane, both were interested in going with their friends but their parents denied despite a warm request. So, they both applied their knowledge('what they learned about politics as well as social class') to their situation in order to convince them.

Firstly, they tried to convince them socially(making them coffee after dinner, offering to set the table, letting them watch PBS documentaries, etc.) but when it failed to persuade them. They both turned to the political way by critiquing them about their 'snobby bourgeoisie power, lack of compassion, and conscience' in order to persuade them. Thus, this reflects the distinction in perspectives and hence, option D is the correct answer.
