A stone is thrown horizontally from the top of a 31.2 m tall cliff. The stone lands at a distance
of 21.4 m from the edge of the cliff. What is the initial horizontal velocity of the stone?

Answers

When a stone is hurled horizontally from the top of a 31.2 m tall cliff, its horizontal initial velocity is 39.25 m/s.

What is the initial horizontal velocity formula?

By measuring the ball's diameter d and dividing it by the time t it takes for it to cross the photogate, one can also calculate the ball's starting horizontal velocity. Therefore, Vo = d/t. The kinematics equations of motion can be used to calculate the horizontal velocity of a projectile motion made by a person or an item.

Calculation:

Height of cliff is 31.2 m

distance is 21.4

t = √2h/g

t = √2×31.4/9.8

t = √62.8/9.8

t = 0.80

The stone's first motion:

V = 31.4/0.08

V = 39.25 m/s.

when a 0.622kg basketbll hits the floor its velocit changes from 4.23m/s down to 3.85m/s up. if the averge force was 72.9N how much time was it in contact with the floor?

Answers

Answer:

Time, t = 3.2 ms

Explanation:

It is given that,

Mass of basketball, m = 0.622 kg

Initial velocity, u = 4.23 m/s

Final velocity, v = 3.85 m/s

Average force acting on the ball, F = 72.9 N

We need to find the time of contact of the ball with the floor. Let t is the time of contact. So,

\(F=ma\\\\F=\dfrac{m(v-u)}{t}\\\\t=\dfrac{m(v-u)}{F}\\\\t=\dfrac{0.622\times (3.85-4.23)}{72.9}\\\\t=0.0032\ s\\\\\text{or}\\\\t=3.2\ ms\)

So, the ball is in contact with the floor for 3.2 ms.

How can people stop being Homophobia? °∩°

Answers

Pretty long so read if you will:

I'm pretty late to this but oh well. Well to start why are people homophobic in the first place? You might not understand as well but that is because me and you are growing up at a time and place where people are encouraged to be themselves and we're embracing people that are different than what is considered normal. Gay marriage was legalized literally in the US in 2015, 5 years ago. I come from Malaysia, one of the few countries where it's illegal to be gay and can cause a death penalty from what I've seen. Obviously I grew up in a place where gay and whatnot were a joke and is wrong. But we moved and I came to the US and my beliefs changes, it also helped that I was literally only 11 so I was more easier to change than adults. Majority of the world honestly, are not as open to the lgbtq+ community as a person in America might think. The belief that it's only a women and men probably stems from the fact that it's how u make babies. And if we know anything, society doesn't like things that are different. To stop people being homophobic you have to stop people from spreading the belief that it's wrong to be gay or bi. This is going to be hard and people really overestimate the world when it comes to change. Peoples belief won't be changed so quick just, change doesn't happen quick. It's going to be a long time and maybe even never, look at racism. We all exist together for so long but there's still racism though much less compared to back then. As long as people stop teaching that next generation, us, that being lgbtq+ is bad, it will decrease but it will take a long time. And as much as I agree we need it to be now, it won't and trying to force something will only cause more backlash. Just try to inform the people around you and understand change does not happen fast, it's slow, especially if it you want it to be permanent.

A) Determine the total electric potential (in V) at the origin.

B) Determine the total electric potential (in V) at the point with coordinates (0, 1. 50 cm)

Answers

V = kq1/x1 + kq2/x2 is the formula for the total electric potential at the origin, where k is the Coulomb constant.\(V = (8.99x109 Nm2/C2)(4.60x10-6 C)/(0.0125 m) - (8.99x109 Nm2/C2)(2.14x10-6 C)/(-0.0180 m) = 1.28x105 V\) after plugging in the supplied values.

A) We need to compute the electric potential due to each point charge separately and then sum them up to get the overall electric potential at the origin.

The following formula determines the electric potential caused by a point charge q at a distance r from it:

V = kq / r

where k is equal to 9.109 N/m2/C2, the Coulomb constant.

The distance from the point charge q1 to the origin is r1 = 0.0125 m, with x1 = 1.25 cm = 0.0125 m on the x-axis. The electric potential caused by q1 at the origin is thus:

\(V1 = kq1 / r1 = 9.109 Nm2/C2  4.6010-6 C / 0.0125 m = 165.12 V\)

Keep in mind that the displacement absolute value is always taken to be the distance r. the observation point's vector from the point charge.

The distance from the point charge q2 to the origin is r2 = 0.0180 m and it is situated at x2 = -1.80 cm = -0.0180 m on the x-axis. The electric potential caused by q2 at the origin is thus:

\(V2 = kq2 / r2 = (9 10 9 N m 2/ C 2)  (-2.14 10 6 C) / 0.0180 m = -226.47 V\)

It should be noted that the negative sign in front of q2 denotes a negative electric potential caused by q2.

The sum of V1 and V2 determines the total electric potential at the origin:

\(165.12 V - 226.47 V = -61.35 V, where Vtotal = V1 + V2\)

Therefore, the total electric potential at the origin is -61.35 V.

B) To calculate the point's overall electric potential (0, 1.50 cm), Each point charge's electric potential must first be independently determined, and then added.

First, let's get the distance between each point charge and the y-axis's (0, 1.50 cm) centre. The distance between the point and q1 is:

r1 = √[(0.0150 m)^2 + (0.0125 m)^2] = 0.0191 m

Q2 is located at a distance from the point of:

r2 = √[(0.0150 m)^2 + (-0.0180 m)^2] = 0.0242 m

The point's electric potential as a result of q1 is:

\(V1 = kq1 / r1 = (9 10 9 N m 2/ C 2)  (4.60 10 -6 C) / 0.0191 m = 119.96 V\)

The point's electric potential as a result of q2 is:

\(V2 = kq2 / r2 = (9 10 9 N m 2/ C 2)  (-2.14 10 -6 C) / 0.0242 m = -65.47 V\)

The sum of V1 and V2 determines the point's overall electric potential. V2:

V total = V1 + V2, which equals 119.96 V - 65.47 V, or 54.49 V.

Consequently, 54.49 V is the total electric potential at the position (0, 1.50 cm).

Suppose you want to momentarily balance the downward gravitational force on a proton by a magnetic force. If the proton is moving horizontally in the east direction with a speed of 6.20 104 m/s, what magnitude do you need

Answers

In order to momentarily balance the downward gravitational force on a proton with a magnetic force, you would need  To find the magnitude of the magnetic force needed, we can use the equation for the magnetic force on a moving charged particle:

Fm = qvB sin(theta)

Where:
- Fm is the magnetic force
- q is the charge of the particle (in this case, the charge of a proton which is 1.6 x 10^-19 C)
- v is the velocity of the particle (6.20 x 10^4 m/s)
- B is the magnetic field strength
- theta is the angle between the velocity and the magnetic field (since the proton is moving horizontally, theta would be 90 degrees)

Since we want to momentarily balance the gravitational force, the magnitude of the magnetic force should be equal to the weight of the proton (which is equal to its mass multiplied by the acceleration due to gravity).

So, set the magnitude of the magnetic force equal to the weight of the proton:

qvB sin(theta) = mg

Substitute the known values:
(1.6 x 10^-19 C)(6.20 x 10^4 m/s)(B)(sin(90°)) = (mass of proton)(9.8 m/s^2)

Simplify:
9.92 x 10^-15 B = (mass of proton)(9.8 m/s^2)

Solve for B:
B = [(mass of proton)(9.8 m/s^2)] / (9.92 x 10^-15)

You would need to know the mass of the proton to calculate the magnitude of the magnetic field needed.

The word was then used figuratively, in both noun and adjective form, to refer to anything small or concise, such as a biographical essay. The word is a reference to the human thumbnail and alludes to the small size of an image or picture, comparable to the size of the human thumbnail. The utilization of "thumbnail" in the particular setting of PC pictures as 'a little graphical portrayal, starting around a bigger realistic, a page format, and so on.' seems to have been used for the first time in the 1980s.

Thumbnails are decreased size renditions of pictures or recordings, used to assist in perceiving and sorting out them, serving similar job for pictures as a typical text with indexing accomplishes for words. Why is an appliance cord with a three-prong plug safer than one with two prongs?

Answers

An appliance cord with a three-prong plug is safer than one with two prongs because it includes a grounding wire.

The third prong is connected to the grounding wire, which provides a safe path for electrical currents to flow in case of a fault or short circuit.

This helps to prevent electric shock or electrocution by directing the electrical current away from the user and into the ground. Without this grounding wire, electrical currents can flow through the user's body, causing injury or death.

Therefore, it is important to use appliances with three-prong plugs and to ensure that the outlets they are plugged into also have three prongs for safety reasons.

The reason an appliance cord with a three-prong plug is safer than one with two prongs is that the third prong provides an additional safety feature called grounding.

This grounding prong prevents electrical shocks and potential damage to the appliance by redirecting excess electrical current away from the user and into the ground. In a two-prong plug, there is no grounding feature, which makes it less safe in comparison.

So, a three-prong plug is safer due to its grounding capability, reducing the risk of electrical shocks and appliance damage.

Answers

A.) The speed of Tarzan at the bottom of the swing when he starts from rest is 10.8 m/s.

B.) The speed of Tarzan at the bottom of the swing when he starts with 4 m/s is 11.6 m/s.

Let us solve this problem using law of conservation of energy. The kinetic energy at the bottom of the swing will be equal to the gravitational potential energy at the start of the motion.

U = K

m g h = 1/2 m v²

where,

m is Tarzan's mass

g is acceleration due to gravity

h is initial height

Tarzan's speed at the bottom is v

Re-arranging the equation for making v as subject, we have

v = √ (2 g h + u²)

Initial velocity u = 0.

Therefore, we must determine h, Tarzan's starting height. We know that the length of the swing is L= 30 m and it is initially inclined at θ = 37° with respect to the vertical, so the initial height of Tarzan is given by

h = L - L cosθ = L(1 - cosθ) = 30 ×(1 - cos 37 ) = 6 m

Tarzan's speed, then, at the swing's bottom is

v = √ ( 2 × 9.8 × 6) = 10.8 m/s

B.) If u = 4 m/s,

v = √ 2 g h + u² = √ [2 g L(1 - cosθ) + u²] = √ [ 2 × 9.81× 30 × (1 - cos 37 ) + 4²] = 11.6 m/s
