The cell is the smallest unit of an organism. Recall that the cell is composed is a self sustaining unit. This implies that the cell has many components that is able to provide for the needs of the cell. The cell is thus depicted as quite a self sufficient unit in itself.
Having said this, the object that is around my school that could be used to model a cell is the motor vehicle. The motor vehicle looks more like the plant cell because of the presence of the body and the windscreen that provides support for the car and protects it from external pressure. The energy for the car to function is provided by the engine of the car were combustion occurs. This is similar to what happens in the mitochondria of the plant cell.
This model can be used to show the various parts of the cell and it also shows the cell as a compete unit. However it falls short in the sense that a car is a nonliving thing and is incapable of cooperating with other units.
