During the winter, the amount of snowfall increases on a glacier, which causes accumulation and the glacier to thicken, and because there is not much melting this creates a net gain of ice called a __________ ice budget.NegativePositive
Answer: Positive
Explanation: During the winter, snowfall increases on a glacier, which causes accumulation and thickening of the glacier. Because there is not much melting during this time, it results in a net gain of ice on the glacier. This is referred to as a positive ice budget because the glacier is gaining more ice than it is losing. The opposite of a positive ice budget is a negative ice budget, which occurs when a glacier is losing more ice than it is gaining. This can happen due to factors such as increased melting or calving (the breaking off of chunks of ice from the glacier's edge).
what is the effect of drainage basin and catchment area on people
The drainage basin and catchment area have significant effects on people via water supply, flood control, provision of ecosystem services, and land use planning considerations.
The drainage basin and catchment area, which refer to the geographical region where water drains into a specific water body, have several effects on people.
Water supply: The drainage basin and catchment area play a crucial role in providing a source of water for human use. Rivers and streams within these areas serve as freshwater sources for drinking, irrigation, and industrial purposes. People living within or near these regions depend on the water resources for their daily needs.
Flood control: The topography and land characteristics of a drainage basin affect the potential for flooding. The shape and slope of the catchment area determine how quickly water drains, which can either mitigate or exacerbate flooding risks. Communities residing in these areas need to consider flood control measures and infrastructure to protect lives and property.
Ecosystem services: Drainage basins and catchment areas support diverse ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, and wildlife habitats. These ecosystems provide essential services like water filtration, carbon sequestration, and recreational opportunities. People benefit from these services, such as clean drinking water, climate regulation, and recreational activities like fishing, hiking, and wildlife observation.
Land use planning: Understanding the boundaries of a drainage basin and catchment area helps in land use planning and resource management. It allows policymakers and communities to make informed decisions regarding land development, agriculture, and conservation practices. Proper land use planning in these areas can contribute to sustainable development and minimize negative impacts on the environment and human well-being.
In summary, the drainage basin and catchment area have direct effects on people through water supply, flood control, provision of ecosystem services, and land use planning considerations. Recognizing and managing these effects are crucial for sustainable water resource management and the well-being of communities.

swinging in a hammock in your backyard on a warm, humid saturday afternoon in late spring, you observe a towering cumulonimbus cloud building in the sky not more than a couple of miles from your home. fifteen minutes later, you hear thunder, and a minute after that, experience a strong gust of wind, the smell of dirt, and a significant temperature drop. after another minute, you are out of the hammock and running into your house as a heavy downpour of rain begins. synthesize and apply related concepts from module 8 regarding thunderstorm structure, characteristics, and stages of development, to explain the reasoning behind each aspect of the experience described in the scenario.
The observer experienced various stages of thunderstorm development including the formation of a cumulonimbus cloud, the arrival of wind, changes in temperature and smell, and the onset of precipitation.
A thunderstorm is a complex meteorological event that involves various physical processes. In the scenario described, the observer experiences several aspects of a thunderstorm's development, which can be explained using related concepts about thunderstorm structure and characteristics.
The towering cumulonimbus cloud: The observer noticed a cumulonimbus cloud building in the sky, which is a type of cloud that is associated with thunderstorms. Cumulonimbus clouds are vertically developed clouds that can reach great heights and are characterized by their dark, flat-topped appearance. These clouds form when warm, moist air rises and cools, leading to the condensation of water vapor into clouds. The thunder: After observing the cumulonimbus cloud, the observer heard thunder, which is a result of lightning within the cloud. As the lightning travels through the cloud, it creates a shockwave that produces a loud sound. The time between seeing the lightning and hearing the thunder is an indicator of how far away the lightning is; in this case, the observer heard the thunder 15 minutes after observing the cloud. The wind gust, smell of dirt, and temperature drop: The observer experienced a strong gust of wind, a smell of dirt, and a significant temperature drop, which are all characteristic of the arrival of the storm. The gust of wind was likely caused by the downdraft, a strong downward flow of air, that forms as the warm air rises in the thunderstorm and eventually cools and sinks. The smell of dirt is often associated with thunderstorms because the wind gust can stir up dust and dirt from the ground. The temperature drop is a result of the cooling of the air as it rises and encounters the cold, higher-altitude air in the cloud. The heavy downpour of rain: Finally, the observer was running into their house as a heavy downpour of rain began. The rain is a result of the condensation of water vapor in the cloud, which eventually becomes heavy enough to fall as precipitation. To learn more about thunderstorm visit: https://brainly.com/question/2517977

Answer:
The correct answer is D. The state of Montana is about the size of the area of the Amazon that was cleared between 1990 and 2010.
Explanation:
Deforestation is the main problem that threatens the ecological stability of the Amazon jungle, generating through the reduction of forest land contamination, extinction of native species, alteration of ecosystems and many other damages to the environment.
It is calculated that more than 18,000 square kilometers of jungle are cut or burned annually, which, projected over 20 years, gives more than 360,000 square kilometers in which the Amazon jungle has been reduced due to human action. This amount of territory can be compared with the extension of the state of Montana, which has an area that exceeds 380,000 square kilometers.
answer: D
Explanation:
The state of Rondônia in western Brazil — once home to 208,000 square kilometers of forest (about 51.4 million acres), an area slightly smaller than the state of Kansas — has become one of the most deforested parts of the Amazon.
20 percent
That is more than 150 acres lost every minute of every day, and 78 million acres lost every year! More than 20 percent of the Amazon rainforest is already gone, and much more is severely threatened as the destruction continues. It is estimated that the Amazon alone is vanishing at a rate of 20,000 square miles a year.
Threats Facing The Amazon Rainforest
Ranching & Agriculture: Rainforests around the world are continuously cut down to make room for raising crops, particularly soy, and cattle farming. ...
Commercial Fishing: Fish are the main source of food and income for many Amazonian people. ...
Bio-Piracy & Smuggling: ...

Mining:
The forests are cut down to make way for vast plantations where products such as bananas, palm oil, pineapple, sugar cane, tea and coffee are grown. As with cattle ranching, the soil will not sustain crops for long, and after a few years the farmers have to cut down more rainforest for new plantations.
What changes are occurring to the size of the Amazon rainforest?
Climate change and deforestation could convert the majority of the Amazon rainforest into savanna, with massive impacts on the world's biodiversity and climate.
Deforestation and forest degradation are responsible for around 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions. These greenhouse gas emissions contribute to rising temperatures, changes in patterns of weather and water, and an increased frequency of extreme weather events.
about 100 years
In addition to the carbon release associated with deforestation, NASA has estimated that if deforestation levels proceed, the remaining world's forests will disappear in about 100 years.

Write about the solar system
The solar system is made up of the sun and all the objects that orbit around it, including planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other objects.
The sun is the center of the solar system and is a star. It is the largest and most massive object in the solar system, and it provides light and heat to the other objects in the solar system. The sun is made up of hot gases, primarily hydrogen and helium, and it produces energy through nuclear fusion.
The eight planets in the solar system are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These planets are classified as either terrestrial planets or gas giants. Terrestrial planets, such as Earth and Mars, are made up of solid rock and metal and have a denser composition than the gas giants. Gas giants, such as Jupiter and Saturn, are made up of mostly hydrogen and helium and have a lower density than the terrestrial planets.
The four terrestrial planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, are located closer to the sun and are smaller than the gas giants. Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system and is also the closest planet to the sun. Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system due to its thick atmosphere, which traps heat. Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to support life. Mars is known for its reddish appearance and is the fourth planet from the sun.
The four gas giants, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, are located farther from the sun and are much larger than the terrestrial planets. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system and is known for its Great Red Spot, a giant storm that has been raging for hundreds of years. Saturn is known for its beautiful rings, which are made up of small particles of ice and rock. Uranus and Neptune are known for their blue colors, which are caused by methane in their atmospheres.
In addition to the planets, the solar system also includes many smaller objects, such as moons, asteroids, and comets. Moons are celestial bodies that orbit around planets, and there are more than 200 moons in the solar system. Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the sun and are found primarily in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Comets are small, icy objects that orbit the sun and are known for their bright, fuzzy appearance when they come close to the sun.
Overall, the solar system is a fascinating and complex place, filled with a diverse range of objects that all play a role in shaping the way our corner of the universe works.
The solar system is made up of the Sun and everything that revolves or moves around it.
Our solar system consists of our star, the Sun, and everything tied to it by gravity - the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; dwarf planets such as Pluto with dozens of moons; and millions of asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.
There are more planets in the night sky than stars outside of our own solar system. So far, we've identified hundreds of planetary systems orbiting other stars in the Milky Way, and more are being discovered all the time.
The Milky Way is only one of maybe 100 billion galaxies in the cosmos, and most of the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy are estimated to contain planets of their own.
