Explain the role of enzymes as catalysts that lower the activation energy of biochemical reactions.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

In summary, enzymes are proteins that lower the activation energy of a chemical reaction. Enzymes are not consumed or produced in a reaction, but they are catalysts that allow the reaction to proceed at a faster rate. ... Together, they form the enzyme-substrate complex.

Explanation:

Above

Answer 2
Enzymes are biological molecules (typically proteins) that significantly speed up the rate of virtually all of the chemical reactions that take place within cells. They are vital for life and serve a wide range of important functions in the body, such as aiding in digestion and metabolism

The Asian longhorned beetle is native to China and Korea. The beetle is thought to have entered the United States by means of untreated wooden packing crates. The beetle larvae make tunnels and feed on wood of a wide variety of trees like maple, elm, willow, and birch. Infestation by a large number of these beetles can result in the death of the trees.

Which is the best measure that the United States government can take to limit the introduction of more beetles?

Responses:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prevent growing trees in and around shipyards.
Introduce predators of these beetles from China or Korea.
Require an inspection and treatment of all wooden packing materials before being imported.
Cut all trees that are infected or are at risk of being infested by the beetles.
Answers
My first answer would be to inspect all wooden packaging materials before being shipped, since that seems to be the way they are being transported from China and Korea to the United States.
My second answer would be to release predatory species concerning this native beetle species to evacuate or kill of the beetle community in the United States. Although, that could create more problems with more non-native species (of the United States), reasoning the first answer to be the best.
The other answers would most likely be worse, since the extermination of possibly infected trees would just kill the trees, which is something we are trying to stop from happening. If we prevent those trees from growing in/around shipyards, the species could still travel through the packaging if it is brought further onto land or use other modes of transportation. Also, the trees were already growing there in the first place, so then 'preventing' them from growing would just lead back to killing the trees that could be infested.
A student has two solid blocks that have different masses. The student knows that each block is composed of a pure substance, but she wants to know if the blocks are composed of the same pure substance. Which of these would best show that the blocks are composed of different substances?
A.
Both blocks sink when placed in water.
B.
Both blocks can be scratched by a piece of glass.
C.
One block conducts electricity and the other does not.
D.
One block has a greater volume than the other block.
Answers
Answer: I think the answer would be (D) because mass and volume are kinda different and If one has a different volume then it would have a different mass right?
C is the correct answer.
Explanation:
A and b don’t show anything that is different between the rocks so they are both cancelled. With D, if a block has a greater volume that has nothing to do with the substances. This shows that C is the best answer because if one block conducts electricity, that means it is composed of something different (for example metal).
Answers
The organelles carry genetic material from inside the nucleus to the chloroplasts for reproduction.
The correct option is D.
Which cells are organelles?
It's also crucial to remember that eukaryotes, being one of the three main cell divisions, are the only ones to have organelles. Prokaryotes, which include the other two major divisions of bacteria and archaea, lack membrane-bound organelles.
What tasks do organelles perform?
Like an organ in the body, an organelle is a subatomic structure that performs one or more particular functions for the cell. Some of the more important cell organelles are the nucleus, which stores genetic material, the mitochondria, which provide energy stored, and the golgi apparatus, which assemble proteins.
Atoms are made up of smaller particles. Identify the three particles within an atom. Compare these particles in terms of location, electrical charge, and size. Explain why most of the mass of an atom is located in the nucleus.
What should i write as my answer?
Answers
Atoms consist of three basic particles: protons, electrons, and neutrons. The nucleus (center) of the atom contains the protons (positively charged) and the neutrons (no charge). The outermost regions of the atom are called electron shells and contain the electrons (negatively charged). Atoms have different properties based on the arrangement and number of their basic particles.
The hydrogen atom (H) contains only one proton, one electron, and no neutrons. This can be determined using the atomic number and the mass number of the element
The seed germination investigation during the students' summer vacation involves selecting various seeds (e.g., beans, peas, sunflower) and setting up an experiment. They will place the seeds in different conditions, like light vs. dark or wet vs. dry, and pot the same seed in multiple pots. Throughout the investigation, the students are expected to carefully observe and document the changes that take place over time, including the growth of roots and shoots. This hands-on approach allows them to gain practical knowledge of seed germination and develop essential scientific skills in observation, data collection, and documentation.
Which is the independent variable?
Answers
Answer:
First, before determining which variable is which, we go over the definition of each. The independent variable is the one which is intentionally changed in order to investigate its effect on the dependent variable. The dependent variable is monitored and changes occur in it due to the changing conditions of the independent variable. In this case, the location of the African violets is the independent variable as it is intentionally changed, while the rate of growth of the African violets is the dependent variable as it is being measured.
The Charvon oil company is planning to make a large investment in coal-to-liquids (CTL) gasoline. The end product will be a perfect substitute for gasoline made from petroleum, but the feedstock will be coal instead of oil. Two technologies are available to the Charvon Company. The first is called indirect CTL, where the coal is gasified prior to being liquefied. The second is called direct CTL, where the coal is dissolved in a solvent, and the resulting liquid is processed into gasoline. The Charvon Company has hired you as a consultant to help them decide which technology they should choose. Charvon expects to produce 1.2 million gallons of CTL gasoline in each of the next twenty five years, and they can sell the gasoline for $2.25 per gallon. The capital cost of indirect CTL is $10.5 million and operating costs for indirect CTL (labor, fuel, and maintenance) are $600,000 per year. The capital cost of direct CTL is $16 million and operating costs for direct CTL are $280,000 per year. One problem with indirect CTL is that the coal gasification process releases large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. Assume that for every gallon of gasoline produced with indirect CTL, 0.01 tons of CO2 are released. You have learned that starting from year 4, government might implement a tax of $45 per ton of CO2, which is applied as increase in the operating cost since year 4. Assume that if you choose direct CTL you will not be subject to the tax on CO2. Assume capital cost for both technologies can be depreciated using straight line with depreciation life time of 15 years, starting from year 1 to year 15. There is no salvage value so capital cost is 100% depreciated. Consider income tax rate of 21% for the taxable income and discount rate of 7.5% for all costs and revenues.
