Character analysis of Pete the protagonist of "Monsters are Due on Maple Street"

The characters that impact the resolution of the story are the Aliens and the people. The Aliens stand back and watch as the humans begin to destroy themselves and in a dialogue enumerate how taking over the earth will be easy because the humans are already helping to destroy one another.

The conversation that supports the above is culled from the book where one alien indicates that all they would need to do is flicker a few lights and the humans on planet earth will help to end humanity.

Following the above statements, the Aliens decided to watch the town as human beings indeed begin to destroy themselves. All the Aliens had to do was to play a simple trick on the humans to trigger the destruction.

It can be concluded therefore that the character which helped to shape the resolution of the test are the aliens. Based on the above, it is correct to state that the Aliens were the prime antagonists.

The Reefs
By Marcella Morris

She clutched her lab work to her side and walked briskly towards school. The snow fell in typical New York flurries, and the ground was still icy from last night’s freeze. Careful not to slip, she climbed the steps and crossed the campus toward the science building.

"What am I doing?" she murmured. Sophie’s worst habit was talking to herself in public. "I have been warned."

"You are just a high-school kid, Sophie," they warned. "What makes you think you are capable of solving this crucial environmental issue? Stop wasting your time." The professors would not give her laboratory time to complete research nor would they share their expertise with her.

But, she could not stop.

After a snorkeling trip she took with her aunt to the coral reefs, she felt that something had shifted inside her. The snorkeling guide made one fact very clear: these colonies of tiny organisms would not last. In fact, we’d be lucky if they lasted five more years. She cared about the safety of these coral reefs more than she has cared about anything for a long, long time. She had to do something for the fragile, endangered habitat with its fish, mollusks, worms, crustaceans, and many more.

She used her money to create a lab at her aunt’s house. She worked tirelessly—endlessly—sleeping only when she had to.

"It’s what Mom and Dad would have done," she thought.

Sophie's best friend, Sam, would hang out with her every day—eating pizza, fries, and whatever else he could get his hands on, keeping her company with his humor while she worked on her experiments. And now, she has a biological solution in her hands.

She hesitated at the door to the labs. Nervously, she shifted her lab report from one hand to the other.

"I know that I have an innovative approach to solving the coral reef issue and I know I can help," she said to no one.

The image of being ridiculed by these professors, delayed her entry. She stood outside the door, wanting to run back—wanting to hide—glued to the icy spot.

"Hey, Sophie!" She turned at the unexpected sound of Sam’s voice.

"I’ve been…trying to catch up with you," he panted, out of breath. "Let’s go in and…show them…what you’ve got."

Sophie tilted her head, smiled at Sam and opened the door. She walked confidently to the front, laid out her research on the podium and began her presentation. When her presentation ended, it was to the enthusiastic sound of the scientists’ applause.

Explanation:The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci is possibly the world’s most famous and recognized painting.

It has attracted people’s attention for hundreds of years and since being on display in Le Louvre it has drawn guests from all across the world to admire it in real life.

But why are we so obsessive over one painting? What is it about the Mona Lisa smile that draws the attention of thousands of people?

Here are 5 fascinating facts about the Mona Lisa that will leave you wanting to know more, or even see it for yourself. When visitors travel afar to see the Mona Lisa, quite often they are expecting a largely epic painting but the painting is only 30 x 20 Inches (77 x 53 centimeters).

This is partially to do with our ability to view things online before seeing it in person.

This ability means that we end up looking at the painting out of context, which leads to us making assumptions of its size. This might sound like a hoax, but really it isn’t her name.

It is thought that the lady displayed in the painting was Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a wealthy Italian man named Francesco del Giocondo.

History indicates that he commissioned the work to Leonardo Da Vinci in 1503.

The piece was titled Mona Lisa, which roughly translates to mean “My lady Lisa”, but it was never completed.

Da Vinci died in 1516, therefore the painting was handed to his assistant, having not finished the painting himself before his death.

It is unsure exactly who is in the portrait, this is just one of many theories. The Mona Lisa has been passed from one owner to another throughout the years, but it has only ever been stolen once.

This was on August 21st, 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen from its permanent resting place in Le Louvre, Paris, France. The theft remained a mystery for 2 years, as it was difficult to track down where she had gone.

As a result, journalists and the media created huge campaigns to make sure the Mona Lisa smile was imprinted on the public’s minds to make sure everyone was on the lookout.

It wasn’t until November 1913 in Florence that the Mona Lisa was found.

The painting had been offered to art dealer Alfredo Geri, by a man named Vincenzo Peruggia.

Geri, accepted the offer and notified the police so it could be returned to Le Louvre.

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of online education and education in a traditional classroom setting. Which method of
learning is better for students? Write an essay in which you try to persuade a classroom teacher that either online or classroom
learning is best. Pre-writing rough draft and final draft

Answers

Education is a fundamental pillar of society, and as technology continues to advance, the debate between online education and traditional classroom learning intensifies. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages, and choosing the best approach for students can be a challenging task. In this essay, I aim to persuade classroom teachers that either online or classroom learning is the most effective method for students.

One cannot ignore the advantages that online education brings to the table. Firstly, flexibility is a significant benefit. Students can access materials, lectures, and assignments at their own pace and convenience, allowing them to balance their academic pursuits with other commitments. Secondly, online education eliminates geographical barriers, providing access to quality education for students who may otherwise be limited by their location. This opens doors for students in remote areas or with physical disabilities. Additionally, online platforms often offer adaptive learning tools, enabling personalized learning experiences that cater to individual student needs. Lastly, online education enhances students' technological skills, as they become proficient in digital tools and online collaboration—skills that are increasingly valuable in today's digital age.

However, online education does have its limitations. One significant drawback is the limited social interaction that online learners experience. The absence of face-to-face interaction and collaborative learning experiences can hinder the development of teamwork and social skills. Technical challenges, such as poor internet connectivity or technical issues with online platforms, can also disrupt the learning process. Furthermore, online learning demands self-discipline and self-motivation, which may prove challenging for some students who thrive in a structured classroom environment. Lastly, the lack of immediate feedback in online education can lead to slower progress and potential gaps in understanding.

On the other hand, traditional classroom learning offers unique advantages that should not be overlooked. Classroom settings provide students with social interaction and collaboration opportunities that are vital for their personal and intellectual growth. In-class discussions, group projects, and real-time assessments offer immediate feedback, fostering deeper comprehension and critical thinking skills. The structured environment of a classroom helps reduce distractions and promotes focus, ensuring that students are fully engaged in their learning. Additionally, teachers in a classroom setting can provide personalized support and immediate assistance, addressing individual student needs promptly.

Nonetheless, classroom learning is not without its drawbacks. The limited flexibility of fixed schedules may hinder students with diverse needs and commitments. Geographical constraints can also prevent some students from accessing quality education due to the lack of resources in their area. Overcrowded classes pose a challenge as large student numbers can limit individual attention and hinder effective learning. Finally, some classroom settings tend to rely heavily on teacher-centered instruction, where students passively absorb information through lectures, limiting their engagement and active participation.

In conclusion, the debate between online education and classroom learning is complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The advantages and disadvantages of each method must be considered, and a blended approach that combines the strengths of both is often the most effective solution. Emphasizing the importance of flexibility, personalized support, social interaction, and immediate feedback, educators should strive to create a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience for their students. By adapting to the evolving needs of students and integrating technology into the classroom where appropriate, teachers can maximize the benefits of both online education and traditional classroom learning, ultimately providing students with the best possible education for their individual circumstances.

To assess the effectiveness of a new method for teaching arithmetic to elementary school children a simple random sample of 30 first graders was taught with the new method and another simple random sample of 30 first graders was taught with the currently used method. At the end of eight weeks the children were given a test to assess their knowledge. What are the treatments in this study? Write a MATLAB function [output] = leapyear (year) to determine if a given year is a leap year. Remember the MATLAB input variable year can be a vector. The output variable too can be vector. Inside the MATLAB function use the length function to determine the length of year. Inside the MATLAB function, use a for-loop to perform the leap-year logical test for each year in the input vector-and store the logical result in the output vector. The output vector should evaluate true (logical 1) or false (logical 0) during the internal for-loop evaluation. Successfully completing the function now allows a user to use vectorization methods to count the number of leap years between a range of years. For example, to evaluate the number of leap years between 1492 and 3097 the MATLAB command sum(leapyear (1492:3097)) is issued - without an external for-loop driving the computation. For the function to be used in the command line, make sure that it appears at the top directory in your MATLAB path. You can find yours by typing the command matlabpath. Do not adjust the MATLABPATH, just place your . m file in the top directory in the path. Grading: 16 points for leapyear. m,4 points for producing the correct answer in the command line for the number of leap years between 1492 to 3097 using the command, sum(leapyear (1492:3097) ).
